| Is My Doctor Qualified? |
| |||||
Information about your doctor is important yet very difficult to come by. Start by asking the doctor himself any questions you may have. Ask him if he is Board Certified in a particular specialty? Where did he go to school and have his training? Is he on the staff of a University Hospital? Has he done research or published in his field? What organizations does he belong to? Has his license ever been suspended or revoked or his privilege to admit to a hospital been suspended or revoked? Has he ever been disciplined by any professional organization or entity? Get organized. Use this Medical Questionnaire you can print out and bring to your next appointment. Finding information about a doctor's prior malpractice claims is a
touchy subject. The Federal Government keeps a database of any claim
made against any doctor. This is not public information. However, there
are ways to check and see if your doctor has been sued and why. The
Illinois Department of Professional Regulations keeps records of liability
claims against doctors, as do the individuals hospitals where a doctor
has privileges. We thoroughly investigate defendant doctors' backgrounds
to see if there have been similar claims against them. The Internet
also has interesting resources available to help you get more information.
Below is a list of resources that we have assembled for informational
assistance only. We do not warrant nor have we verified any information
that is contained on these links. We only list them as a public service.
