Asbestos has a catastrophic effect on the human body. Historically, it has been used as a fire and heat protectant. When processed for insulation purposes, it can be applied in a spray foam, made into clay-like blocks or in a powdery substance that can be mixed with cement or mastic. Four serious diseases can result out of asbestos exposure, namely: pleural thickening; asbestosis; lung cancer and mesothelioma (attacks the lining of the lungs of persons exposed to asbestos fibers). Persons who have been exposed to asbestos suffer from one or more than one of these diseases at different times during his or her lifetime. Pleural thickening can result from a relatively small exposure period. It causes shortness of breath and reduced lung capacity. It is generally non-fatal. If you suffer from these symptoms - CALL US. Asbestosis, more severe, is a progressive disease, and is chronic and non-reversible when the exposure to asbestos ends. It can lead to a deficiency in getting sufficient oxygen to the body from the lungs and can be fatal. Symptoms are similar to pleural thickening. If you suffer from these symptoms - CALL US. Lung cancer can be directly related to asbestos exposure. Cigarette smoking increases the chances of an asbestos working contracting lung cancer. Many times greater than either smoking or asbestos exposure does individually. There is a high mortality rate among asbestos victims. If you suffer from these symptoms - CALL US. Mesothelioma - it is a rare form of asbestos related cancer and is not related to cigarette smoking. It can destroy the lining of the lungs or abdomen. If you have been diagnosed with this condition - CALL US. The time that the Illinois courts allow injured persons to sue from asbestos exposure is two years from the time of discovery of the condition or two years from the time the injured person reasonably should have known of the condition. However, there are certain instances where an injured person is precluded after ten years or the person's right to sue may be extended for up to twenty-five years after the date of the last exposure. If you have questions about this time period and right to sue - CONTACT US. Use our Free Consultation form, or call us at (312) 787-1995. » Call us at (312) 787-1995 for a Free
